Purpose/Objective
On 4th August 2023, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released the Employees’ Wages Statistics (formal sector) report. Therefore, in this blog, we will be will analyzing and visualizing the median wages in Malaysia.
Note that each graph is interactive, so you can hover over each bar/line chart to see the exact values and other details.
Median Wage
State
The graph below is displaying the median wage in Malaysia, by state (March 2023)
States with the highest & lowest median wages:
W.P. Kuala Lumpur: RM 3,927 (Highest)
Kelantan: RM 1,600 (Lowest)

Gender
The graph below is displaying the median wage in Malaysia, by gender (Jan 2022 - March 2023) showing that males earned a higher median wage than females
Ethnic
Referring to the graph below, Chinese Malaysians recorded the highest median wage, as compared to others.
Age group
In March 2023, 45-49 age group earned the highest median wage of RM 3,900, while 20-24 & <20 groups earned the lowest median wages
Wage group
Lastly, in the wage group, more than 2 million employees earn less than RM 2,000.
